My design approach to this garden was initially led by the desire to turn what were a uninspiring and nessecary set of steps (see before picture) going nowhere into a stunning focal point water feature. From there I was very much inspired by Japanese minimalism and formality. Steel frames were designed to create a sense of sculptural framing and enclosure to the water feature whilst also providing a seating area terrace. For this project as the soil conditions were pretty much perfect being a sandy loam I designed the garden with chamomile adding a soft textural contour to the ground.
